I would say go with Pro if you can as it gives you the benefit of SQL Server 2005 integration and it supports both local and remote debugging. Standard will give you what you need to to do both mobile and desktop develop; Pro will also do that and provide a better experience. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa700921.aspx

I'm gonna want to write applications for the PDA.
I want to be able to install this application onto multiple PDA's.
I guess I can write a setup to do this with Visual Studio 2005.
Now ... I want to write a server piece to reside on a desktop or laptop.
I want my apps on these multiple PDA's to Sync to one database (Access or SQL) on the desktop or laptop. So ... my last question is ... do I need:
Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition or do I need to use
Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition
Thanks!
Tom
