I checked them out. They definetly seem to be the the products I was looking
for. I also came across MS Win Mobile SDK that can be used in combination
with VS 2005 Standard edition or higher, which will give me remote access to
SQL databases. I don't know why I didn't check there first thing. I just wote
it here for the benefit of others. In any case I thank you very much (Ive
also rated your post.)

Thank you very much.
I went over your site. It does not seem to be the solution to my problem.
It
seems that SocketPro is a new startup product for remote data access. I'm
looking for a popular application development environment for the Pocket
PC
which will enable me to CRUD remote records through the internet.
I am asking again of all members and readers of the newsgroup: How do you
people develop Pocket PC applications that connect remotely to a company's
main server?
I am sure there are tens, if not hundreds (or thousands...) of such apps
in
use by various companies and enterprises around the world. Atop of which
environment were they developed? There has to be something really simple
that
I'm missing.

Hi everyone,
I develop apps on MS Access and SQL Server. I now have neeed to develop
a
supplementary application for the Pocket PC which will connect to the
database on the main server.
My clients need real-time updating with their databases. I must have
that
when salesmen enter orders or payments anywhere in the world, the
server's
database gets updated right-away, or as soon as there is cellular or
internet
service available.
The options I have found so far are:
- Syware Visual CE: seems to meet all requirements, but i start off
with
about 700$ in software before the first hour of development time.
- Microsoft SQL Compact Edition: Free, but can only accept one remote
user which is not appropiate for a corporate system.
- Various Apps (SprintDB, HanDBase, Data On The Run, DB Anywhere
etc.):
Most of them do their syncing through ActiveSync which does not support
internet/cellular syncing as far as I'm aware. Others do their own
syncing,
but also, locally only.
Developers, what do you build your apps on? In 2007 I doubt this is
considered a rare or uncommon requirement. I'm probably missing some
very
basic info. I will appreciate all and any feedback, links, corrections,
etc.
