iPaq display driver doesn't support DDraw back buffer?

I have an iPaq 2495b, just purchased, running Windows Mobile 5; I'm
writing a 2d graphics application -- I'm sing DirectDraw because it
seems to be the fastest, most modern method for doing the graphics.

On running one of the example programs for WM5, the emulator displayed
the message "DirectDrawError: Display driver doesn't support a back
buffer". Tis comes from a failure of IDirectDraw->GetCaps() to have
the DDSCAPS_BACKBUFFER bit set.

Does anyone know if there's a display driver available for this
emulator (running on Windows xp pro) that supports back buffers? Does
anyone know if the device does?
