Hi Herbert
All 3 processor type are based on ARM, so that's no problem, the compiled
application will run on all of them.
800x600 is quite big, dont think that it will run perfectly, think you will
have to resize the videos therefore. The OPA is not really slower than the
Xscale, although only half of the Mhz. And the OPA is much more powersaving!
Dont think anyone here in MS-Forums will point you to a Linux-Device (they
are very rare too...)

Hello,
I have no experience with smartphones, but it looks like the ipaq h6340
(h6315) will best fit my needs. An important requirement is that I can
design small applications on my own without paying several 100$.
So I'd like to ask, if the "SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket
PCs" together with "embedded Visual C++" (both available for free from
Microsoft) are sufficient, or if other tools are necessary?
I wonder, because the ipaq models use different processors (Intel
StrongARM, Texas Instruments OPA or Samsung). Does embedded Visual
compile for all these processors?
Secondly, how about performance? For a rough idea: can videos at a
resolution of approx. 800x600 be downscaled and played in realtime, or
do you have to resize them in advance? (Compared to XScale@400MHz the
older OPA@200MHz might be slower, is it?)
Finally, is there a better smartphone at comparable price, which has
- integrated WLAN
- at least 240x320 pixel touchscreen
- free SDK
(- integrated GPS would be nice)
(- Linux OS would be nice)
Thanks
Herbert
