Disabling ActiveSync

In a PocketPC application I'm developing, I need full control over the
serial port. Now it seems that ActiveSync is always listening and sometimes
interfering on the serial port, despite the fact that I have set it to use
"USB" for synchronisation.

Is there a way (perhaps using the registry) to temporarily disable
ActiveSync completely?

Kind regards,
