Re: Writing WM5 application that plays media files

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

No, it will play MPEG2 files, but not MPEG4 files. WMP does support
pluggable codecs.

I assume you mean it supports mpeg4, but not mpeg2, correct?

I'm wondering if its possible to install an mpeg2 codec into WMP10 for WM5

From my understanding WMP for Windows Mobile does not support mpeg (or
a
slew
of other media formats) like its big brother on Windows XP/2003/etc.

At a minimum I need mpeg support for my client.

In the future will WMP for WM5 support other file formats? Is there an
article about this anywhere?

Thank you

WMP has an ActiveX control that would probably work. Alex Feinman did
a
webcast showing how to use it from managed code which Google should be
able
to find.

Background:

I'm developing using Visual Studio 2005 Professional on Windows XP
Pro
targetting Windows Mobile 5.0 PPC. I'm writing a simple dialog
application
that can play some set of media files (jpg, mpeg1(2 and 4), wmv,
mp3)

I have investigated many open source projects out there, including
VLC,
TCPMP, wxWidgets and GStreamer.

Current:

I'm not quite sure what the best route is to go. Basically I want an
SDK/API
to play different media file formats that works on Windows CE. Here
are
some
questions I'm trying to find answered:

1) What is the recommended SDK/API for multiple formats that works
on
WM5?

2) Are there any activex controls that already support multiple
formats?

3) Are there any closed source projects with good support and
complete
API's? (that cost money of course)

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated...

Thanks
