eVC is very similar to VC. I think using them, per se, is not much of
a challenge. Learning C/C++ and/or Windows programming _is_ a
challenge with no real end.

I'm sure I've seen assurances that eVC will be around for the
foreseeable future, but don't have references. It is the only tool
that provides direct access to the Win 32 API, so I can't see it being
dropped. I sure want it to stay around.
I suggest using google
(http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search) to look up
newbie
in this newsgroup. You will find many messages similar to this from
me. But you will also find many discussions of the question you asked.
