Hi,

You (and others) are giving this type of response quite a bit.
I hope you're doing it with a bot of some sort. :-)

I've complained about this before, so I'll do it again
(just like how we give the same answers over and over again):
Why isn't there a FAQ posted periodically?
There could be a "short/condensed" version that could state
"Check Google and Google Groups."
Heck, MS could cut and paste one together in no time, and of
course stick a 5-page disclaimer in it if they deem it necessary.
Of course maybe they're holding out because of their imminent,
any-day-now, stuff that will crush Google. Or maybe not.
But seriously--When I rant about this, the standard response is
along the lines of "Good idea, let us know when you get it
finished." Come to think of it, someone did just that, (put together
their own FAQ) so MS could even use that one with some minor
adjustments. I think that since this group is loosely "moderated"
by MS, they should be the ones to post the FAQs. If not a
standard type FAQ, at least a short one with a URL to an
existing one, and a strong request to check it and the archives
first. If even that is still too much to ask, my suggestion to
everyone who pretty much routinely gives the "check the archives"
or "I just typed ... in google and got 289 hits, 20 looked promising"
responses would be to simply change the SUBJECT in the reply to
indicate that google/archives should be checked--That way, it is
similar to a FAQ posting with a subject/title like "...READ ME..."
I realize that these responses would be within a thread, and as
such, not have as many eyes seeing them as a new "thread" post
would have, but it's better than nothing, in my opinion. And there's
nothing to stop us from just posting a periodic message with a
subject/title such as:
** README: CHECK ARCHIVES BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS: googlegroups.com **
Or whatever. I would still prefer a more "sanctioned" FAQ
posting by MS, since doing the above could be considered rude.

Are we afraid the group would shrivel up and die because the
number of posts would go down?
I think it would be a good thing if the number of posts were
reduced...there would be less to wade through (including things
such as this screed) and therefore more time and thought to be
devoted to the fewer questions posted.

I won't address the thoughts that maybe we just like to
"hear ourselves talk" or "be the hero" or have an excuse
for "branding" our company names via our signatures in our
posts...other than to say that I hope these are not what is
preventing us from having a periodic FAQ posting.

Thanks...
