Oops, I have a typo below...
This line:
"After doing this I can not connect to the phone (so apparently there is some goodness to SP1?) however, the sync now fails with the 8503001c error message."
Should read:
"After doing this I can NOW connect to the phone (so apparently there is some goodness to SP1?) however, the sync now fails with the 8503001c error message."

Hi all,
I'm just about out of hair left to pull out while trying to figure this one out... I'm hoping somebody can help me.
First off my environment:
Device: HTC s710 WinMo 6 Std
OS: Vista (sp1)
WMDC: 6.1.6965
Outlook: 2007
History:
I've had this phone since January and have been successfully syncing my task list, calendar and contacts to it.
The problem:
A little over a week ago when plugging my phone in I got a message something to the effect that there was an issue syncing and I should delete my partnership and recreate it if it continued. So, I did this blindly believing this to be just a blip... After doing this I noticed that my phone would no longer connect under WMDC and I now had no contacts, tasks, or calendar items on my phone. So, I started reading the websites and forums such as this and found advice to turn off the USB to PC setting under Start->Settings->Connections. I tried this and when I tried to sync I got an error on my phone stating that I needed ActiveSync 4.5 to sync my phone. So, back to the forums and I found that some people have solved the connection issues by going back to WMDC 6.0. So, I uninstalled WMDC 6.1 and installed WMDC 6.0 and then was able to sync again with my phone. However, there was a flaw - the contacts which synced did not contain any of the Notes field data (of which I rely heavily upon). After playing around a bit with this what I discovered was that content/changes made to Notes on my desktop did not sync to my device while changes made to the Notes field on my device did sync to the desktop. Though this is a little bit of a misnomer as the data that synced back to the desktop in the Notes field was empty to start with so effectively the Notes content on the desktop was replaced with the newly added data from the device. This wouldn't work, so I went back to the forums on my original issue and found a posting where someone said Vista SP1 may be a benefit for this issue. So, I reinstalled WMDC 6.1 and installed the latest updates (including SP1) on my desktop computer. After doing this I can not connect to the phone (so apparently there is some goodness to SP1?) however, the sync now fails with the 8503001c error message. So, I continued to read forums for this error and it seems that some people find that this is potentially caused by a corrupt calendar item or contact. To test this I switched my sync to only do tasks (of which I only had one) and indeed then the sync would complete successfully. When I added in either contacts or the calendar to the sync it would fail the same way. So, then I backed up my contacts (I have appx 258) and restored just one contact, and then synced and this was successful. So, feeling brave I restored 10 contacts and tried to sync but this failed in the same old way. So, I scaled back and restored only 3 contacts and was also unsuccessful. So, I went back to 2 contacts and tried and was successful. Then I tried 3 (using different contacts) and was unsuccesful, then I tried to do the 2 that just had worked and they failed.
At this point I'm not sure what to do next, I can continue to play with the contacts but there must be a better way than to just randomly try to sync contacts/calendar items to see if they will work or not to test for some corruptness. Would I be better off to just recreate them all? Any other ideas at all on things to try?
All help/thoughts appreciated,
Jon
PS - Sorry for the long post, just trying to get the details in...
