Re: Two-Way Synchronization: What's The Problem?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I uninstalled Outlook and ActiveSync, and did a hard reset on my device. I
then installed ActiveSync 3.8, but even though the icon showed up in the
notification area and it appeared to be running, it would not let me open it
into a window, and I therefore could not create a partnership. Do I need to
somehow manually delete the previously existing partnership? Obviously
ActiveSync is pretty useless as far as synchronization goes if I cannot
create a partnership. Any ideas? Thanks.

That is a fairly odd problem. The setup you have is perfectly fine, though
I would not have upgraded AS with a 2215 and Windows XP. AS 3.8 worked
just fine (better in many opinions), AS 4 and up was only required for WM5
and up.
Regardless. I would try deleting the partnership and re-establishing it.
You need to delete the partnership on the desktop. If you are comfortable
with it, you might hard reset the device, but that is really a last
resort, as it takes it back to out-of-the-box, and you get to set it up
from scratch.

You might try running scanpst.exe to see if maybe there is something
buggered up in Outlook.

Again, your setup should work fine. I don't expect that upgrading anything
would serve much purpose and maybe even cause you further aggravations.
The 2215 is a bit outdated as you say, but understand there are not too
many options now that aren't converged devices...include a cell phone
capability. HP has brought out some new devices, so if you are interested
in upgrading look at the new iPaq 100 and 200 models.

I am using an HP iPAQ h2215 PocketPC and Outlook 2003, along with
ActiveSync 4.5. If I create the event or appointment using my device, it
synchronizes perfectly fine, even if I modify it in Outlook. However, if
the event or appointment is created in Outlook, it will not synchronize. I
have been unable to find a reason for this, and I would appreciate any
suggestions anyone has that may solve this problem. Something else that I
have been wondering that I have not yet received an answer for is whether
or not buying a device that uses Windows Mobile 6 would help (if the
problem is on the device end), or if upgrading to Outlook 2007 would help
(if the problem is on the desktop end). I would be perfectly willing to
purchase a new device (mine is somewhate old), but if it is avoidable, I
would prefer to not need to upgrade to Outlook 2007 (although I would be
willing to do it if I knew it would solve the problem). Any input would be
appreciated. Thanks.
