Re: ActiveSync and Excel files

OK, as long as it is normal, I can deal with it. PITA, yes, but I can handle
it!

Thank you!

I just bought

but I have a problem with Excel files. I have a spread*** for my

that is in Excel 2003 format...

Every time I sync the Excel file to my desktop using ActiveSync, I can
then
edit it on my workstation normally, but when I edit it on the phone and
try
to save it, it always says that it must be saved as a different name and
that some formatting may be lost. I can save it as a different name or
overwrite with the same name, then
edit it again on the phone, and it saves fine until I do another
ActiveSync
of the file. I see no changes in its layout or data between the version
on
the phone and what is on the computer.

There are no macros in the file.

The only reason I am still on Office 2003 is for syncing my Palm to
Outlook.
It is too old to sync to Outlook 2007, and I was waiting to get a WM6
phone
before moving to Office 2007.

How can I get the file to stay the same format when edited on the phone
and
then synced back to the PC?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding- essentially the only problem you're having is
that you get the warning message?

The changes you make actually do sync back to the PC, right? But every
time you sync you get the error message at the next edit and save (on the
device.)

If so, this is perfectly normal- it's just a warning that some of
(desktop)
Excel's features aren't supported in the mobile version and might be lost
if you save. There's probably nothing in your particular file that's
unsupported- it's a generic message we all get when saving a sync'd file.
The warning suggests you save with a different name so you can sync back
to
the PC and check what's "missing."
