advice on upgrading active sync

Hi, I've recently bought a pda (hp4700) from a mate that has a more recent version of active sync to my old pda (hp4150). I'd like to start using his machine when connected to my PC. The only thing I'd like to transfer from my old pda to the new one are my 'contacts' but not quite sure (I) How to go about transferring the old contacts to the new pda and (II) How to remove my old active sync on my PC and old pda replacing it with the later one that's already installed on my mates pda. (He's supplied all relevant discs) enabling me to use both pda's on my computer.
Any helpful advise would be much appreciated
