Dear Raj
Thanks for your reply.
I'm not too computer savvie, so can I run throught this before I install
Office 2007?
1) If I install the ActiveSync version you have provided the link for after
installing Office 2007, then Windows Mobile 2003 will sync the 'Outlook
based' stuff (calendar, contacts, mail, tasks and notes)?
2) To ensure that word and excel files can be synched, I need to select the
default format to be .doc and .xls. I think this is under Tools>Options>Save
in Office 2003 so assume I'll find it in Office 2007
3) Documents created on my PDA will not be recognised by Office 2007 unless
I save them on the PDA in the older format. I guess the easiest is to create
them on the desktop and save them in the files to be synched; that would
ensure they were saved in the right format wouldn't it?
The bit about Windows Media Player and IE is as follows;
I've got Windows Media 9.0.1 on my PDA. I can't find which version of IE
mobile I have. If I upgrade from IE6 to IE7 on my desktop, when I save
webpages in the files to be synched with my PDA, the PDA does not recognise
them, even though they are in 'File Explorer.' I assumed it was because the
Windows Mobile 2003 did not sync with the newer version of IE7. i have the
same issue with the Windows Media 11; the PDA is not recognised when I ask it
to sync music tracks. I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'The media
files will need to be moved to your device like normal files' so if you could
explain that a bit further. It sounds like you don't use Media Player to move
the tracks over but I'm not sure how to do that.
Thanks again for your time.

Hi,.
WM 2003 SE sync's with Outlook 2007. You would need to reinstall the
version of ActiveSync after upgrading to Office 2007. A newer version is
available at -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
However Word & Excel 2007 uses newer XML formats (.docx and .xlsx) as
default. So these formats are not supported by your older device. So you
would need to save documents in the documents in the older format (.doc and
..xls) to be able to view them on the device. For some more additional
information, refer - http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/office2007/index.htm
The device saves the files in the file (.psw and .pxl) which is not
supported by Office 2007. Additionally the convertors which would convert
the format to .doc and .xls is no longer available with the newer 4.x
version of
ActiveSync as the newer mobile devices save the files in their native
format. So if you create word or excel documents on the mobile, then you
might not be able to open them in the Word/Excel 2007 on the computer unless
you save it as a .doc or .xls file on the device. To do this once you
create the file on your device and use Tools -> Save Document As option to
save them in the Word 97/2000 document format.
You might have media synchronization issues if you upgrade to Windows Media
Player 11 if your device doesn't have WMP 10 Mobile. For more information
refer -
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/windowsmobile/default.aspx.
But even if you cannot synchronizes, that doesn't mean you can't play music.
The media files will need to be moved to your device like normal files.
Sorry I didn't understand what you meant by - "I can't upgrade to latest
Media Player and Internet Explorer on my home PC because I can't sync files
with my PDA". If you explain this a little better I will try to help
further.
Upgrades to your mobile device can be provided only by the OEM. Suggest
checking up with them if they have one available for your device.

My HP PDA runs Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088.
I'm about to install Office Pro 2007 on my home PC that it syncs with.
Will it still sync outlook stuff and word/excel files with this old mobile
operating system?
Also, I can't upgrade to latest Media Player and Internet Explorer on my
home PC because I can't sync files with my PDA. Similar problem to above.
Will I need to
1) upgrade mobile operating system (how do you do that?)
2) upgrade to newer PDA (but otherwise I'm fine with what I've got)
3) change active sync
4) not be able to use office 2007, Media Player upgrade and IE upgrade?
Thanks
