Re: Conflict Resolution

I do agree, but a conflict should happen very, very infrequently. What you are describing does not sound like conflict resolution gone bad. Some other odd issue would have to have been in play. Losing all contacts should only happen if the two devices were sync'd, and then all the contacts got deleted from one of them. At next sync they would all be gone, as that is syncing the fact you (or something) deleted them. If somehow, every single unique ID that AS uses to identify the individual records on each device, got changed on one of them, PC or PPC, then I would expect that all contacts would be deleted. The reason is that each side would see that an ID that had previously been sync'd is no missing off of the other device, which would assume a deletion and follow suite. That however would be a very strange instance though, having all the IDs change, without some other odd indications, I would think.

The other issue, of not double booking you, is hard to grasp, as it works fine here. I say double booking, because that is a calendar conflict, but it is not a conflict in the way it is defined as far as syncing goes. AS should treat those two appointments as separate entities, and if you want to be two places at once, fine.

Thanks Sven,

I guess I got spoiled with the pure palm solution. I'll just have to keep a
closer watch on the information I put under the control of AS. I hope, if
they are listening MS will make some improvments in this area. To me it
seems quite simple, have an option to manually resolve the issue and direct
on which device you choose to manually resolve the issue, then put up a pop
up on one of the device and let the user choose...

some home screen and phone features. Didn't know if they might have done
anything in the sync area.

I understand about the conflict resolution. As I said conflicts occur in
only one instance, when you change the same contact (or calendar, etc) on
both the PC and device between syncs. The option to AS about what to do on a
conflict disappeared with AS 4. I complained. They didn't listen. I think it
should be the only option. It should happen very infrequently and it is
because the user did something wrong. They need to know to avoid it.

I would say you cannot keep your contacts in Outlook separate from calendar
and e-mail. At least you can't have them sync that way. If you are not
keeping your contacts on Exchange you must have made a local contacts
folder, or pst, and have your contacts there. That means the contacts store
on Exchange is empty, and that is what will sync. If you have contacts on
the device, it will sync them to Outlook, and it will sync them to Exchange,
unless you don't check contacts in AS. When you create an inbox in Outlook
it has mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, notes. That is what AS syncs with.
That Inbox (set) can be attached to Exchange, or not. Can't split it up. You
can set up a PoP3 mail, like Earthlink, to deliver into that mail store in
that Inbox, but it is still the one primary inbox.
