Re: What needs to run on Mobile device for USB sync to work?

But the checkbox *is* checked to use USB with all PC connections, right?
That's the only thing I could think of that would be a problem that would be
easy to fix. If the checkbox *is* checked and AS does not run (it's not in
the list of running programs in the device's Memory control panel applet),
then I'm afraid that you'll have to hard reset the device to fix that,
losing everything in the persistent storage and resetting the registry to
factory default (you'll have to reinstall all apps installed after you got
the device).

If ActiveSync on the device *is* running after you plug it in, and it's
ActiveSync on the PC that's having a problem, *that* sounds like a firewall
problem on the PC. There's are lots of lists of what to do about that
(pages on the Web, etc.).

Under Menu | Connection the only option is "`USB". When I dock the device
its
screen lights up but ActiveSync on the device does not start. If I run
ActiveSync on the device then dock it does not notice the connection.
ActiveSync on the PC, meanwhile, pops up every time and tries to connect.

I wondered if the grave accent before the USB might be a problem, but a
scan
through the registry showed that several options for connection are
prefixed
with the same character for some reason.

You can't do anything about what needs to be running anyway. The answer
is,
basically, ActiveSync, the application. Run that, if it's not already
running, which it probably is (since you've been syncing using Bluetooth
or
IR). Choose Menu | Connections and make sure that USB is selected and
that
Synchronize all PCs using this connection is checked (this is WM5; it may
be
a bit different on WM6 or 2003).

Greetings All,

I'm using 4.5 and my Orange SPV M600 will sync with my PC using
Bluetooth
and Infrared connections. But not USB. It used to work, but I deleted
all
the
timer queue notifications (ages ago) and it has not worked since. I've
tried
all the firewall suggestions. Indeed I have changed PC (for other
reasons)
and the behaviour is just the same. So my guess is that there is
something
amiss on the device.
Can anyone point me to somewhere that gives details of what needs to be
running on the device.

Ta.
