Re: ActiveSync 4.2 - one way file synchronization only

I've run into a very annoying problem when I changed to an new PDA recently.

The problem occurs when using ActiveSync 4.2 to synchronize files between:
- PDA (Asus MyPal A636N - WM5)
- laptop PC at work (XPP SP2)
- laptop PC at home (XPP SP2)

Although Outlook synchronization (Agenda + Contacts) works flawlessly in any
direction, simple file synchronization (Word, Excel, ListPro, etc.) only
works in one direction: from pc to PDA. This is very inconvenient since any
change made in files on the PDA while travelling is overwritten by the older
PC version once the device is reconnected.

I never had problems of this kind with my former WM2003 PDA, using
ActiveSync 3.8

In the meantime I spent several days/nights trying to find a solution:
- running the ActiveSync problem solver (no errors found)
- re-installing ActiveSync (incl. trying 4.5)
- deleting/re-establishing partnerships (also on a normal XP Home desktop)
- excluding firewall issues
- trying workarounds with apps like MightySync 3.0 (crashes with .Net error
when ActiveSync opens)
- searching on the internet (incl. Chris De Herrera's excellent Windows CE
Website) etc.
but all in vain.

The only thing I haven't done so far is hard resetting the device since I've
no other problem whatsoever with it and expect no benefit from this.

I would welcome any further suggestions/comments.

Hi Antoine,

I had the same problems with my ASUS PDA, as you can read here
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync/browse_thread/thread/9132af741348411d
..
I also spent nights to find a solution for this *very* annoying
problem.
In the end I had sent my ASUS PDA to the ASUS Support Center in
Germany. The case number was RMA-Nummer: GH6C4238. After three weeks my
PDA came back and now it works correctly :-)
I don't know why it works now, but I don't care.
Hope that information helps.

Cheers
Ender
