Hi Everyone... I'm trying to get this right because it seems to be a
real tussle to install and use ActiveSync, so here's a few questions:
1. When I install AS on a host PC/Laptop do I have to somehow
"install" AS on the PDA as well or is it just on the PCs? Is there a
cab file for activesync that I need to run or drag to the PDA? Please
explain the process or point to a decent tutorail link not intended
for a programmer... just a user.
No, ActiveSync is built into the ROM image for the device; it's always
there.
2. I have a WM5 Dell Axim X51v that runs great, but it only seems to
sync 100% with my Thinkpad T30 XPP laptop at home. When I cradle it
with my Compaq desktop (W2000P-SP4) at work, only Outlook syncs.
Only Outlook, as opposed to Outlook plus what else?
3. I have installed the latest v.4.5 Beta² AS on both the laptop and
the desktop. I can open AS on the laptop, explore, install programs
and such... but on the desktop I cannot even open a AS dialogue box
although it does sync.
You are an administrative user on your desktop with full privileges? If so,
you've probably got the window position for the ActiveSync window screwed
up. There are a couple of registry entries that store where the window is
supposed to be displayed.

4. My laptop at home is the initial machine that saw the PDA when it
was brand-new, so all the basic installs were done off of it. Does
this mean that a secondary sync PC will never be able to do all the
things the primary PC does?
