Hi Raj,
the problem with the duplicated birtday/anniversary is really annoying.
Because in addition to what I've told before: If you edit a contact (which
has a birthday entered) on desktop PC1 and synchronize PC1 with the PPC,
everything is ok. But if you now synchronize the PPC with desktop PC2,
desktop PC2 adds a new recurring birthday event. This immediately becomes
synchronized to the PPC. And if you synchronize the PPC with desktop PC1
again, the duplicate entry is synchronized to this PC too. So each time I
edit a contact which has a birthday entered, I get the birthday twice as
recurring event in the calendar. And so on... :-((
And if my PPC looses it's memory because of an empty battery (this sometimes
happens over night even if the battery is charged 100%), I have the problem,
that after restoring the last backup with Active Sync, Active Sync does not
know about the last synchronisation state and wants to synchronize the PPC
completely. Usually I delete all entries from desktop PC1 and import
everything from the PPC. The problem is, that the desktop PC in this case
also creates duplicates of the recurring birthday events. If I now do the
same on desktop PC2, this one also creates a recurring event for each
birthday. Now I have them in triplicate. :-(((
So my "simple" questions are:
- how can I avoid those birthday appointment duplicates?
- how can I restore a backup with ActiveSync to the PPC,
so that the next synchronisation does only sync the new/changed items?
- why does my PPC sometimes eats the battery power in one night while it is
turned off,
where normally the battery needs to be charged every two weeks only?
Additional information: On the PPC I use Webis Pocket Informant 5.6.2 as
personal information manager. But there I have disabled the option, to
create recurring events as of birthdays of contacts (which is designed to be
used, if the PPC is not synchronized with desktop outlook, which itsself
creates those recurring events). Some month ago I had contacted Webis
because of my problem. But they told me, if I already have disabled this
option, it's not a problem of PI.

Rainer

Hi Rainer,
ActiveSync doesn't support syncing of Contact sub folders. If you want to
synchronize Contacts stored in them then you can consider using the free
PCS
add-in for Outlook. Refer http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/OutlookPCS.html
Other alternatives would be to use third party application like Pocket
Mirror - http://www.chapura.com/pmp_wm.php or Pocket OnSchedule -
http://www.odysseyinc.com
The issue you describe about duplication of recurring events (birthday &
anniversary) shouldn't be happening since it would check for the
Brithday/Anniversary appointment before syncing the Calendar information
on
the 2nd computer. Not quite certain whats causing the problem here.
AFAIK
it never happened when I was using a WM 2003 device. Will confirm later.
Unfortunately you cannot disable to the manner in which Outlook adds the
birthday/anniversary via Contacts. Except maybe via a VBA script but that
is another long story. At this point I would suggest you use the free
Outlook Duplicator remover tool - http://www.slipstick.com/files/ODR5.EXE

I have a HP iPAQ 1930 Pocket PC which I (try to) synchronize with 2
desktop
PCs.
I synchronize all calendar appointments and all contacts (except the ones
in subfolders because I do not know how to do this).
I have the following problem:
- I add a contact with a birthday date on desktop PC 1.
- Because of the entered birthday, desktop Outlook creates
an annual recurring appointment in the calendar.
- Now I synchronize desktop PC 1 with the Pocket PC.
Both the contact and the recurring appointment are transfered
to the Pocket PC.
- Now I synchronize the Pocket PC with desktop PC 2.
Both the contact and the recurring appointment are transfered
to desktop PC 2.
So far, so good. But:
- Now Outlook on desktop PC 2 also creates an annual recurring
appointment because of the birthday of the new contact.
This leads to two annual recurring birthday appointments in
the calendar.
- The second recurring appointment is automatically transfered to
the Pocket PC.
- If I now synchronize the Pocket PC again with desktop PC 1,
the second recurring appointment is also transfered to desktop PC 1.
What can I do to avoide this?
Or better, how can I tell desktop Outlook not to create any appointments
based on contacts birtdays or saint's days?
The pocket PC has german Windows Mobile 2003,
the PCs have german Windows XP Professional SP2 and german Outlook 2003
SP2. Both have all security updates installed.
The problem occured with Active Sync 3.8 and still occures with Active
Sync 4.2.
Other problem:
Because of the problem described above, I have upgraded from Active Sync
3.8 to Active Sync 4.2. This was a nightmare. After installing the new
version of Active Sync, Active Sync had lost it's synchronisation state
and asked me, what I would like to do. I could choose between 3 Options
(merge PPC and desktop OL, transfer all from the PPC to desktop OL, ...).
To simplify the task, I stopped synchronization at this point, deleted
all
contacts and calendar entries at the desktop PC and synchronized the PPC
with the empty desktop OL. A day later, the same happend at the second
desktop PC. Took me 2 hours, to get rid of all the duplicated contacts
and
appointments (only a few were automatically detected by desktop OL).
Why has Active Sync 4.2 forgotten the synchronisation state of Active
Sync
3.8? The PPC still was known (except of the password).
What can I do to avoid this behaviour?
What have I done wrong?
Regards,
Rainer
P.S.: Sorry for the long post.
But I have this problem for 3 years and during this 3 years I've lost
more
time by deleting duplicated contacts and appointments as I've won by not
managing contacts and appointments 3 times (at two desktop PCs and in a
pocket diary).
