We have an updated patch for this problem that you can install on
the
Exchange Server. Before I give you a pointer to the patch, Can you
please
tell me your carrier?

I have a SBS2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP1 running.
Everything works very well, except one thing: I can't get
my up-to-date notifications to get to my pocket pc phone
edition.

Having done quite extensive troubleshooting I have found
that Exchange DOES send the smtp message
to "myphonenumber@xxxxxxxxxxx". But, the message never
arrives on the phone. Regular messages sent to the phone
as SMS arrives just fine. So, in an attempt to figure out
why the SMS never arrives on my phone, I captured a
packet trace of the SMTP session between my exchange
server and the SMTP-SMS gateway at my cell phone service
provider.

The trace follows (mildly sanitized):

220 tofu.tmomail.net MailShield SMTP (UCE NOT WANTED)
EHLO server.somewhere.notexist
250 Hello server.somewhere.notexist [aa.bb.cc.dd],
pleased to meet you
MAIL FROM:<>
250 <>... Sender ok
RCPT TO:<myphonenumber@xxxxxxxxxxx>
250 <myphonenumber@xxxxxxxxxxx>... Recipient ok

550 Message refused
QUIT
221 tofu.tmomail.net closing connection

What stands out to me, is how the SMTP header seems to
not have a sender address: "MAIL FROM:<>".

Based on the fact that any other email sent to this SMTP-
SMS gateway arrives at my phone just fine I am quite
confident that the issue is caused by Exchange 2003 OMA
not including a sender in the SMTP up-to-date
notification email message.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there a known sloution or
workaround for this?

Regards
Mikkel Hansen *
