Hi Richard,
I recollect having a some what similar issue where whenever I started
Windows Media Player it would pop the window under discussion. A reinstall
helped me get over the problem. I would suggest you too try the same since
it wouldn't be easy to isolate the registry entry (if any).

Yes - I have KillSync in Startup as requested - but still I get the
messages whenever I log in.
One thought - this issue started when I accidentally connected the device
while having this other user account open. Prior to this the issue did
not happen. I suspect there must be a registry setting that thinks that
there needs to be a device connected - whereas in fact there does not.
Hope this helps.

Hi Richard,
The message is generated by WCESMgr.exe which calls the Wcescomm.exe
internally. Did you check the steps I suggested earlier about checking
the
startup? That should have helped in this case as well.

NO - that is not the message I am getting. The message I get is
"Get Connected - To connect your device to this PC 1. COnnect the cable
to
the PC 2. Turn on the device 3 place the device in its cradle.
ActiveSync should automatically detect your device.
This is then followed by a window "To set up a connection, start
ActiveSync and follow the on-screen instructions
It is these 2 messages I am trying to stop.
Thanks

Hi Richard,
Just to ensure I am understanding this right, you are referring to the
window that is displayed at the beginning of this article -
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/MultiplePartnership.html which prompts
to
either setup a Standard or Guest Partnership. Yes/No?
Under normal circumstances, the KillSync would kill the wcescomm.exe
process
and therefore would also shut the windows associated ActiveSync.
Suggest
you check if the app is placed in the correct folder. Do the following
to
confirm.
1. Log into the account where you want to disable ActiveSync.
2 Click Start ->Run and type:
%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
3. Click <enter> or Ok button.
4. Either place a shortcut pointing the path to the KillSync.exe you
have
downloaded or simply place the file in this folder.
5. Logoff and login to confirm if the problem persists.
If it persists, then there might be some entry which is executing the
process again. We can try to narrow it down once you confirm the
above.

I have put KillSync into the Startup group - it runs OK - but I still
get
the same messages asking me to set up a Partnership with the device -
even
though it is not connected.

Hi Richard,
If a mobile device is not connected, then ActiveSync shouldn't prompt
you
to setup a partnership. One option you could consider using a small
utility called KillSync and place it in the startup of the user
login.

Hi Richard,
Which version of ActiveSync are you using? Is the device connected
to
your computer while switching user logins? Are you logging out of
the
earlier user or simply switching?

I have Active Sync installed and connected with my iPAQ in one user
on
my laptop and this is working fine. However whenever I open a
different user on the laptop I get an invitation to set up Active
Sync
on that user as well and I don't want to do this. How do I stop
Active
Sync from displaying these messages every time I open ths other
user
account?
Thanks Richard
