I am experiencing the exact same thing. I am running DEL XPS M1210 laptop.
Its weird cause I can connect this phone just fine on my Toshiba laptop. So
it has got to be something with my DELL and ActiveSync 4.2. I tried
updating to 4.5 as well and that did not work, actually gave me the blue
screen of death.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the link, but I really don't think this is it.

I have tested connections to all of these ports and it is working just
fine. Plus the Windows Firewall is disabled and no alternative firewall is
in place.

I am having a problem with my Windows Mobile 5.0 device connecting to my
laptop via ActiveSync 4.2 The mobile devices gets a network connection
just fine, but ActiveSync never get's past the "connecting ...." stage.
I have un-installed and re-installed ActiveSync twice. I have even
removed the device from device manager. Also I verified that I could
connect to port 990 on my computer to rule out any firewall software
being the culprit.

NOTE: The last time a successful sync happend I was using a port
replicator. After removing the port replicator this started happening.

PLEASE HELP!!!
