Thanks very much for the answer. If this is the case (and I agree it is
because it had happened to me), I cannot trust AS to recover my contacts if
the memory of my Pocket PC get erased. In fact, synchronization would erase
also the contacts in my desktop! How is it possible that AS cannot help in
doing backup/ restore of contact data?

By Default - during synchronization, Deletes always Win. So if you delete
an item on one side
of the partnership, it will get deleted from the other side after a
successful synchronization regardless of which is the source.
In your case, it seems like you deleted some items and after the sync
session - the Delete won causing some of the items to be deleted.

I'm new to ActiveSync and can't figure out how to do the following:
-How could I upload the contacts in my desktop to the pocket PC? In my
test, I have the two contact databases synchronized and I deleted one
contact in the Pocket PC. During the following synchronization, the
contact disappeared from the desktop instead of reappearing in the Pocket
PC (want to use desktop as repository for backup file).
In essence: How do I control which is the source (Pocket or desktop PC)
before synchronizing ?
thanks!
