Re: Trouble with Activesync 4.2

Hi,
What I was referring to was disabling the synchronization of contacts, and
then reenable it. Since everything works except the contacts, I suggest
moving the Contacts to another folder, sync and then move the contacts back
one at a time until you identify the problem.
Another thought is to run Scanpst to fix any problems with the PST file.
Also, the notes are normal as files.

Thanks again Chris: I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what your first
paragraph means. Initially, I tried syncing Contacts, calendar, tasks (no
need for inbox) all at once, and that was the first failure.
Then I tried Calendar (limited to 2 previous weeks) by itself, and that
worked.
Then I tried Notes by itself, and that worked -- though they appear as
files
in the Activesync folder as well as in "notes" on the device -- is that
what
they are supposed to do? (I just re-checked all the "notes" and I can see
no
files in them, though that's something I hadn't thought of. They are all
notes I typed in outlook --Most were originallly typed in on a Treo 600
running the latest Palm OS and then synced with my PC -- would that
matter?),
and the longest is <1000 words.
Then I tried Contacts by itself, it runs for awhile and then stops with
the
dread "incomplete" icon on the whirlygig. Thatnks for the reference point
as
to Contacts size -- I didn't think mine was exraordinarily large.
Have I done what your first paragraph suggests?. Or is there an "option"
I
am missing?

Hi,
Have you tried selecting the option to sync calendar, contacts, tasks and
inbox and then add them back one at a time.
As for the size of the contacts list, I have worked with users that have
synchronized over 10,000 contacts.
On another thought, since you metioned the notes, are there embedded
documents in the notes? It could be a problem converting the documents.

Thanks, Chris: I am connecting to my PC via cable, following the user
guide,
wth ni intention of syncihing with the exchange server.
Support.Microsoft.com defines Erro 503 (85010017) "whenever a pending
request is already in the system. This behavior occurs because the
desktop
only accepts one request at a time. In this case, the device request
takes
too long to process or more than two minutes. The device sends another
request, and the second request causes the 503 error. To work around
this
problem, use one of the following methods;"
"Let synchronization fail the first time (I was never presented with a
choice). Do not restart the computer, reconnect the device and then
give
the
synchronization process time to finish. (exactly what does one do to
"give"
the process time to finish?? Just let it run?? I've tried this many
times
and I still get the 503 error message.)"
"Or, the customer may have an item that causes Activesynch to spend
lots
of
time trying to synchronize (like how long?) In this scenario, the
customer
must determine what is causing the problem" How's THAT for classic
Microsoft helpfulness? Just HOW does the customer go about
"determining"
which item is causing the problem?
I made the guess it was my 172 item contact list, but that is not as
large
as many customer's contact lists -- what would be the limit in size??
I
pared it down to 154, but that still won't sync. The user's manual
notes
that Activesync may not sync everything so as not to overwhhelm Device
memory
-- and suggests that one use "settiings" to reduce the size of the info
data
block: BUT, there are no "settings" available for "Contacts" AND my
device has a 2GB memory chip aboard -- which Activesync should be able
detect and make use of if needed to sync a large item.
If the error can be so well described, software changes can fix it. If
Activesync can't detect and utilize large amounts of extra memory,
software
changes can fix that also. In a word version 4.2 STILL isn't to the
job,
though it was supposed to fix prior complaints.
Given this additional info, has anybody got any ideas?

Hi,
Are you synchronizing with Exchange? The 503 message is one that is
sometimes seen when synchronizing directly to the Exchange server.

I got your address from a Modaco forum with dozens of gripes about
Activesync -- hope you are in a position to help or improve the
program.
7/19/2006: bought Cingular (HTC) 8125. Phone, Email, Web, Bluetooth
work
fine.
Activesync from Cingular CD connects but will not complete - won't
sync
my
172 item Contact list - " 503 Server busy" message.
Discovered v. 4.2: downloaded and installed, did the same problem
Removed, reloaded 4.2, did the same problem
Spent 6 days wandering through every MS, Cingular & HTC site (they
all
point
at the other guy) I could find: put exclusions in the firewall and
other
suggestions. Forums have many others with same troubles. Finally
got
Calendar and Notes to sync when I tried them one at a time. Got
some
files
into my PC Synchronized files folder OK, but can't find where they
went
on
the 8125 device, if they went at all.
Very distressed, about to go back to Palm - never had such troubles
with
my
Treo 600.
Would really appreciate some feedback, even if only that you are
alive,
aware and working on it.
