I had the same problem on my Gateway 200 series with a 2915 Intel card
installed. I solved it by switching to using the Intel Wireless
Connection Manager to control my connection. However, after rebuilding
my laptop and downloading the latest version 10.1.1.3 software/driver
package from Intel the problem returned. Connecting my WM 5.0 phone
would cause my wireless connection to disconnect.
Knowing that my phone and wireless connection WOULD work, I started
troubleshoot (with posting on this group and other web sources).
Finally, I downloaded the version 9.0.4.0 software/driver package from
the Intel site, removed the newer 10.1.1.3 software/driver package,
rebooted, and installed the 9.0.4.0 package. IT WORKED!!! I looked at
the network properties for the Intel card and there was a new entry:
"Intel Wireless Connection Agent". As a test, I un-checked this entry
and rebooted. My connection manager started and brought up the
connection to my wireless router. I plugged in my phone and the
wireless connection dropped. I rebooted and tried again. Wireless
dropped again. I re-checked the Intel connection agent and rebooted.
The problem did not occur after checking the Intel Connection agent
back under the wireless card properties.
The new version 10.x Intel software/driver package do not include this
"Intel Wireless Connection Agent".

WPA network from working, does it? Your problem sounds like an *exact
match* for those in the Activesync Kills Wireless thread in this group,
which started a long time back. You can use GoogleGroups to find that
thread and read all the old messages and my attempts to get useful
information to the AS team concerning what hardware/software versions which
trigger the problem. That problem is definitely Intel-specific. You can
see what success a small percentage of people have had in fixing it with
different driver versions in that thread, also.

I've been in communication with Harish and some of the other guys on the
team about the loss of AS computer connection (the "Activesync Kills
Wireless" thread, here), with WPA/Intel/version 10 drivers, but that
doesn't sound like the same problem as described here, where the entire
wireless network is destroyed when the WM device is connected.
The (almost) same config here:
Intel 2200BG with Version 9.0.4.13 Drivers immediately kills my 802.11g
WPA protected WLAN connection for good the moment my PC obtains an IP
address from the WM5.0 client via AS 4.1 - only a reboot reactivates it.
My notebook is running Win XP SP2 at the current patch level with no third
party firewalls or such nonsense installed.
Other WLAN clients do not notice a thing so it really seems to be a driver
/ AS issue...
