Re: DLink VPN Client prevents AS4.2 and Axim WM5 from connectin

Hi,
Since it's a re-packaged Checkpoint VPN try using the settings documented at
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x-firewall.htm item #6.

Please let me know whether or not this resolves the issue. Also please let
me know what version of the DLink VPN client are you using.

Sincerely,

Thanks Chris. The call yeilded nothing. They admit that the program is a
re-packaged Checkpoint VPN package - though any support files and
directories referenced by Checkpoint do not exist on my PC. Their
top-level tech support said that their software is only minimally
configurable, and there are (according to him) no other changes I can make
to the software that would either prevent or eliminate the filtering. I
asked him if there were and registry hacks or other ini files, and he said
no.

Fortunately he did offer me his email so I can send him solution when I
find it - whoopie!

For now, I've given up, reverted back to WM2003 on my PDA, and reinstalled
AS3.8. Though I'd prefer to be running WM5 (BT seems to be more stable),
it's simply not worth the hassel. I can only image that as AS4.X gets
more into the mainstream, bugs like this will get worked out on their own.
So perhaps in another year or so, I'll be ready to migrate.

THanks again for your help!

Hi,
Unfortunately the MTU and the NicMediaType should not be causing the
disconnection.

It sounds like DLink is offering a stripped down version of standard VPN
software. So a phone call to DLink to understand if there are registry
or configuration files that offer more options may help.

Chris, thanks for the prompt response and the idea. Unfortunately, you
get what you pay for with this DLINK software. It has almost no
configurability. I've gone through all the available menus, and find
nothing other than "stateful inspection" - which is off. Are there
other areas I might be able to access (through network adapter
settings)? The software creates its own network adapter called "DLINK
Secure Client Adapter". If I try to configure this using Window's
network properties, there are only two options; MTU and NicMediaType.
Nothing else. Needless to say, any other suggestions would be VERY
welcome! Thanks...

Hi,
Check the D-Link VPN client to see if you can configure it to support
the use of other network connections simultaneously with the VPN
client. This is usually called a split horizon.

I've proven that it's the DLink (DS-605) VPN client software. Without
it, AS works just fine. As soon as I install it, AS says connecting,
but eventually disconnects w/o syncing.

I talked to DELL and to DLINK. Neither had an answer. The latest MS
release states that 4.2 is supposed to resolve VPN issues, but
unfortunately, DLINK doesn't.

ANyone have a work-around (other than uninstalling my VPN software
everytime I want to sync)?
