there are a number of ways to transfer data to and from a ppc such as serial, ir and bluetooth which are (relatively) easy to program or control. Wifi is another option.

USB is possible, but problematic due to the fact that it is normally a "client" rather than "host" and I am not aware of programmic use of this connection to transfer data outside of activesync other than one app which configures the ppc as a mass storage device on connect.
