Re: Cannot conntect to ActiveSync 4.1 / WM 5

Yep, MS has a lot of work to do to make it really work well.

You should not have to enable DHCP for any network adapter, other than the
one corresponding to the RNDIS device (the Pocket PC). The DHCP Client
service needs to be enabled and set to Automatic on the PC (via Computer
Management applet/Applications and Services/Services). The firewall, of
course, needs to be properly configured. I don't use ISA server, but there
are probably security issues with that and it wouldn't surprise me if, while
the PPC device was plugged in, you couldn't connect to ISA server. It
sounds like this isn't the case, which is good.

Dennis, you've followed the steps in the Troubleshooting ActiveSync 4.1
connections from www.microsoft.com/mobile? Where do things stop working?
Or are you having intermittent success?

Well, this is weird. I just uninstalled ActiveSync. Deleted the program
files\microsoft activesync folder and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE Services (back it up
first!). After a reboot Outlook 2003 wanted the source CD again, but
otherwise everything is OK. I plugged in my PPC, nothing

I just reset my LAN on my workstation to a static IP and connected my
PPC. Nothing.

Disconnected my PPC and set my LAN to DHCP. Connected my PPC and it
syncs. I then installed some more stuff I want. I then disconnected,
restart PPC and reconnected and its still happy.

try resetting your LAN IP settings, that seem to reset something
somewhere....

thanks,

I have the same issues... I have a Sprint PPC6700 AS 4.1 and my
workstation is WinXP SP2. I had my workstation on static IP and when I
switched it to DHCP my activesync was happy, however it is a day later
and now the same thing is happening, it won't sync and I get the Local
Area Connection 6 (up to 10) is Limited or no Connectivity. Driving me
NUTS! I have four activesync exceptions in my Windows Firewall:
ActiveSync Application, ActiveSync Connection Manager, ActiveSync RAPI
Manager and ActiveSync Service.

My workstation is behind an ISA 2004 firewall with the firewall client
installed. When I first plug in my PPC, my firewall client goes from
Connected to ISA Server to Configured for ISA Server and then a few
later its Connected again. Is there an issues with ISA? Craig, do you
use ISA 2004? Interesting that you can access it from a local login and
not a network login...

Well I'm going to keep researching and let you know if I find anything.

Thanks!

OK, WM5 devices will *only* work with AS 4.x. *NO* earlier version
will work at all.

Based on your final comment, it might be a result of using a VPN. Are
you?

Ok, sorry.
Running XP SP2, running in a domain environment. The device is an
Ipaq
hx2190 running Mobile 5.
Have tried AS 3.7 / 3.8 / 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2.
AS 3.7 & 3.8 wouldn't work as the USB drivers are different and are
installed as part of AS4.

I'm sure its got something to do with network/group permissions (even
logged on as administrator) as I logged to the pc as a local user
(not
connected the network) and it connected fine.
