Mobile Phone/Hp2215--Same PC--Which ActiveSync?

Situation:
Just got a mobile phone/PDA (Cingular 8125) bundled with 4.1
I have old Pocket PC HP2215 synched with 3.8.
I want to sync both from the same PC.
3.8 and 4.1 cannot be on the same PC.

Observations:
Right now (but the scuttle-*** says this can't work)
4.1 installed on PC
HP2215 still synchs just like 3.8!?
8125 synchs in new and disappointing ways (loss of functionality WRT notes
and files).

Question:
Is this the way things are supposed to happen or is there a better
arrangement?

I'd read the manual, but the next question is: where is the manual?
