Re: Installing in wrong location?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Terry,

I assumed it got ticked by default but that doesn't seem to be the case when
I verified. Either way, there is no easy manner to determine the location
where the software is installed via ActiveSync. One method to find out
where your software is installed would be to install a registry editor on
your device and then access the following key:

\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\

Here you will find the list of the software that is installed on your
device. Select the software and take a look at the value of "InstallDir"
that should give the location of install.

For registry editor you may use PHM Registry Editor -
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/. You can set the above
registry key as a favorite item for quicker access in future.

Hi Terry,

On hindsight - the instructions work only with some apps which use that
string variable to set the path. I have used it in the past to overcome
the
issue you described.

Yes, "default location" would mean the main memory. Ideally its good to
install on your storage card since it will help keep main memory free.
But
then there are a few apps which require to be installed on the main
memory.
Unless you have checked it while installing on the storage card, the
"Install program in the default installation folder" should give you an
indication where the software is installed.

Sorry Raj, but you've lost me on that last point! Where exactly does
ActiveSync tell me where an existing PPC program is *currently*
installed? As I mentioned, I frequently have to go into Explorer to
find out. I've usually forgotten whether I first installed it in Main,
iPAQ File Store, or SD Card.

Maybe I'm missing something very obvious - wouldn't be the first time
