Re: SYNC thinks the PC is the master, but the PDA is

All of my old Outlook data, etc is still on the PC, I just did an upgrade of
XP Pro over XP Home and everything looks the same, nothing was lost. I did
use the sync combine option after having to install ActiveSync 4.1 (because
older versions no longer would install at all), but the new items in my
Calendar on the PPC disappeared, while the old items, which matched the PC
items, were still there. I restored from backup on the PPC to get my new
items back. I never make changes on the PC.

How do you delete and add a partnership?

And what are the steps to syncing to the PC without losing my current PPC
info, Outlook contacts, calendar and tasks, documents, etc. I don't sync
email.

Thanks,
Mich

You have a little problem now. I assume when you upgraded your PC you
wiped out your Outlook data? When you got your PPC to sync you should have
selected Combine, which would have Combined the nothing on your PC with
the good data on your PPC. There never has been an option to overwrite the
PC on initial sync. There really isn't any option to make either unit the
master unless there is a conflict. That means something on the same entry
was changed on both the PPC and PC between syncs.

If you still have nothing on your PC and good data on your PPC, delete the
partnership, let it prompt for a new on and Combine. If you did the
initial sync with no data on the PPC or the PC, and subsequently just
restored the PIM data, syncing should copy it all to the PC. Each added
item is a new item and will be replicated to the PC.

Earlier this month I upgraded my PC from Win XP Home to Win XP Pro. I
had some problems with MS Installer but finally all seemed well until I
tried to resync my PDA with ActiveSync 3.8 which I have been using a long
while. It no longer recognized the PDA in the USB cradle. I uninstalled
3.8 but when I tried to reinstall the installation would suddenly quit
without installing it. Tried older versions of 3.5, 3.7, and previous
download of 3.8 to no avail. Finally found a note on Microsof that 4.1
was compatible with Windows Mobile 2003, so downloaded and installed that
OK but it still didn't recognize the connection. Changed the cradle to a
different USB port on the back and it worked!

Then I went to sync the items but the options pretty much assumed the PC
was the primary data entry. I backed up my PDA data then synced up, and
it wiped out all the new entries, appointments, etc on my PDA. I
restored what I has saved.

How do I sync the PC and PDA and use the PDA as the source of the most
accurate info which will then update my PC, rather than vice versa?

Thanks,
Mich
