I don't know what's going on, either, but you haven't told us and I don't
spot in the logs the new name of the device which you set, triggering this
sequence of problems. I've been through several names for my K-Jam and
found that all caps, no -, no /, no symbol characters of any kind, works
much better than anything else.
You can also delete all of the partnerships from the PC from the ActiveSync
application and see if that's any better.

Just more information...(I know I hate that I'm replying to my own
message, but I'm really frustrated!)
I just reinstalled AS 4.2, upon the setup it says "your pocket pc is
already set up to synchronize with another computer". I've not synched
this ppc with any other computer. I don't have a clue what's going on now.

Ok, I've just gone from bad to worse. I had my device (Cingular 8125)
syncing up on a partnership name that I didn't like (using Active Sync
4.1 on Windows XP machine). I went in to the device, changed the device
id and synced again. I suddenly had an error message saying
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your
devide and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft
ActiveSync troubleshooter..." - I uninstalled AS 4.1 and tried the Beta
AS 4.2 from the microsoft website. Upon installation of that and trying
to sync, I got the same old error message. I then uninstalled AS 4.2
and reinstalled 4.1, but now the sync process sits at the connection
screen doing nothing. I can't seem to figure out what to do to fix it
now. I need serious help here, please. I have McAfee but have
completely shut it down (don't have firewall protection on it anyway).
Please help.
