Any word on a resolution for this? (I updated my intel driver per notes in
here and elsewhere, but it did not solve the problem)

ActiveSync 4.1 (Build 4841)

When the PPC is connected by cable, the wireless connection drops,
reconnects and attempts to acquire an address (but failed). Not only
does the wireless connection is disrupted on the machine to which the
PPC is attached, the connection on the other two computers are also
disrupted - same behavior. I need to reboot each one to regain network
connection after disconnecting AS; one time I even need to reset router!
