Re: Wireless Sync Issue

Thanks Michael and Chris for your help.

My company just today suddenly took back the Sprint 6700 phones we were
demoing, and gave me a BlackBerry instead, so I no longer have access to the
device. I'm sorry I have to bow out of this discussion.

I did talk to Sprint, and (as usual) they were clueless, saying there was no
bug in their phone or system.

Some of the popular fixes that works for some people involve DNS or WINS
resolution of the server name, sometimes making changes on the mobile device
with PocketHosts, sometimes making changes in a host file on the server. Many
different solutions out there on the newsgroups, but sadly, one size does NOT
fit all, not by a long shot. Microsoft is still not ready for prime-time with
WM5.0/AS4.1.

By the way, the Blackberry syncs just fine ;)

Thansk again,
Jeff

Having the same problem like Y Admin.
Using an O2 ATOM and unable to sync via GPRS after a USB sync unless I stop
the active sync running in the memory of the mobile device.
I can ping using VXUtil the server name and resolve the proper external ip
address instead of the internal one that the USB does its sync with.
Does Active Sync on the mobile device cache the server details?

Hi,
Have you talked with Sprint? This sounds like a possible bug with the
synchronization of the 6700.

Thanks for your response, Chris!

It appears that AS is not running when uncradled, as the AS arrows
disappear
2-3 seconds after I uncradle it. Interesting to note that I have it set
for
syncing 'as items arrive', and when a new item arrives in my Inbox, after
10
or so seconds AS starts up on the device, connects out to Sprint, and sits
there saying 'Synchronizing Folders', and never gets out of that until I
turn
off AS (it still does not sync after that until I re-cradle it).

It's almost like my server is trying to talk to it when new items arrive,
but is unable to, until I soft-reset it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,
Is ActiveSync still running on the device after you uncradle it? You may
want to stop ActiveSync and see if that resolves the issue.

Hi All,

Using Exchange2003SP2, AS4.1, and have a Sprint 6700 w/WindowsMobile5.0
(no
MSFP). I can synch connected to the cradle, and can synch wirelessly
*only*
after I do a soft-reset. When I re-cradle the device, it synchs up to
the
PC
just fine.

I use the server name "outside.domainname" to connect to, since it's my
OWA/OMA front-end, and the server is accessible from the Internet via
HTTPS
under that name. I have one internal CNAME DNS entry with that name
pointing
to it's internal IP, and it also has a Public IP registered on the
Internet
DNS. Internally, the server's "real" NetBIOS name is 'corpex03'. That
all
seems to work fine for resolution, since in the cradle it resolves the
'outside..' host name to a 192.168.x.x address, and while uncradled, it
seems
to pick up the public address from Sprint's DNS servers (I verified
this
via
the VxUtil tool).

I am just not understanding why I cannot sync wirelessly without a
soft-reset, since I can prove that it's resolving the correct public IP
before I reset it. I've tried configs with PocketHosts, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks, All!
Jeff
