Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Carl!

Carl Wolz [MSFT] schreib am Do 16 Feb 2006 03:15:20a:

The error has to do with a component called "RAPI". This component
allows the PC to issue commands on the device. Typically this is used to
read a registry value or file.

Can that RAPI-Driver be updated or exchanged?

I suspect that it is the firewall that is causing the problem. I would
guess the issue to be around the firewalls handling of
WSADuplicateSocket().

Do you think it would be a good idea to uninstall the firewall and to try it
with only the windows SP2 firewall? Maybe with a disabled one fo a trial?

A better test would be to unplug the device, than enable a security
feature, then plug in the device. Enabling the security feature once the
device is plugged in probably won't result in the device hitting this
issue.

If we unplug the device with disabled firewall, anti virus and (W)Lan and
plug it in again without changing anything, it will not be recognized by AS
anymore.

The only solution is to reboot, uninstall AS, clean the registry, reboot,
disable firewall, antivir and LAN (the later just for safety reasons) and to
reinstall AS. Then plug device and all is okay. AS works, sync possible etc.

You unplug device and you can start from the beginning.

Also possible seems to be just to reapir the AS installation, but my wife
wants to be on the safe side of the problem.

But that is of course no solution we can live with...

Any suggestions??

Can this be related to the laptops BIOS or USB-drivers?? We use the lates
versions and all other USB devices (MP3-player, USB-storage, mouse etc.)
work just fine.

Greetings
Olav
