You will need to broadcast the SSID to get it set-up initially.
Once connected once, you might be able to turn SSID off again.
Some people have found its worth turning all security off to get the first
connection, then turning it back on again carefully.

As you can see, I know absolutely nothing about what I'm looking at. I'm
sure that's why nothing is working. But I don't understand how to find any
"missing parameters" as a result.

Any help you can offer in comprehension is appreciated.

Right. That's the EAP stuff. You don't want or need to set that. So,
when I set up WiFi (after removing the settings for the APs that I
previously had configured), I tap on the SSID of the AP that I want to
connect to. This brings up a dialog that asks which network this will
connect me to, Work or The Internet. You'll have to answer that one on
your own.

Tapping on the Network Key tab in the same dialog gives the choice of the
type of authentication (open/shared). Again, you have to know the answer
to that. Same with the setting for whether the key is automatically
provided or you have to enter it yourself (and which key index it is).
Presumably, WEP is the right setting for the Encryption.

Don't enter anything on 802.1x. That's the EAP stuff and, if you aren't
using that, setting anything there would be a bad idea.

Tap OK and it should connect. If not, you've entered the wrong parameter
somewhere.

Currently I'm still running WEP. I've also seen a lot of posts
indicating issues with WPA setups so I might hold off moving to that now
(though I had planned to soon).

My confusion is the Windows Mobile 5.0 seems to want you to set up a
connection that has a username and password. I'm unaware I can assign
those in the LinkSys admin for the router. For my PCs in the house I've
always just had to assign the SSID and encryption key, and then they
just work.

That's kind of where I'm at. Feel free to probe if you need me to give
you anything else.

How is the router configured, from a wireless viewpoint? There's no
way we can give a step-by-step without knowing if WEP is enabled, if
WPA is used, if EAP is used for authentication, etc.

Can anyone point me to a link that would give me a step by step on how
to get this phone to connect wirelessly to my LinkSys WRT54G router? I
can't figure out how to do this (the manual isn't clear).

With all the woes I'm having right now trying to get this to sync with
my PC, I thought it would be good to try to find a positive experience
