Hello again Rob,
The computer is running XP Pro and was a virgin install.
It was updated to SP2 via CD as it has never had Internet access in this
incarnation.
It is connected to a HP LaserJet printer and has MS Office Pro installed and
used.
It also has a custom application using an MS Access database for work order
planning/tracking which is responsible for transferring data to/from the
iPAQ's during remote sync.
NAV 2005 is installed but disabled as I am unable to update the definitions
due to no Internet access.
As long as the computer is stand-alone then everything works fine but as
soon as it is connected to a router or network to share printers etc. then
all bets are off.
It was a year ago that I reverted to stand-alone and it has worked perfectly
since.
You will understand why I am wary about connecting it to the network but it
is now causing us grief by not being able to share printers - I also wanted
to install some other programs such as ScanSoft PDF Creator but you can only
authorize it over the Internet and doing without Internet access is
strangling it...how did we ever manage without broadband? ;^)
A year ago I had contact with a MCP who investigated this issue briefly on
my behalf - I quoted his response in my original post - it seems like MS
ActiveSync will not allow remote dial-up when the computer is part of a
network - how limiting is that?
I wonder if this is actually the case - I mean how do other Companies get
on?
I had tried HP/Compaq as the issue effects their hardware but they were
unable to locate any specific information regarding this issue.
I am going to ring Microsoft this morning to see if I can open a case on
this but it would have been good to be armed with info from others who have
come across this problem or found a work-round.
Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-
