I had the same problem and you need to either allow access via the firewall
or close the firewall while you sync. Even though the connection is via USB
Activesync uses TCP/IP protocols, hence the reason you have a problem with
the firewall. I also found that I could not connect from home if my vpn was
running. I have not figured out how to get around this yet.
