Activesync refuses to sync, but only when notes or files are enabled

Hey all-
I've got a pretty strange problem (strange to me, anyhow). I've got
an old HP Jornada 568, and I'm trying to sync with Outlook. When I
enable contacts, calendar and tasks in activesync, everything works
great. However, if I add either files or notes to the sync list, the
following occurs:
- "Looking for Changes" (takes forever)
- "The following types of information type on your mobile device has
items that have not been synchronized with this computer before". I
choose "replace".
- "Connected" (still spins for a few minutes)
- "There was no response from your mobile device while checking for
out-of-date contacts"
My synchronized file folder is empty, and I don't have any notes in
Outlook (2000) to synchronize. The same thing happens with items in
those areas anyway. I'm running ActiveSync 3.8. I've tried this with
two XP machines and one Win2k. Same thing. I've tried creating a new
PST file, and running scanPST. I've also tried all of the above
combinations with my other PocketPC (and early ipaq), and get very
similar results (even using two different cables, one serial and one
USB). One of the WinXP computers was a brand-new fresh install of
Windows. The problems go away if I delete the partnership and leave
notes and files disabled.
Anyone have any other ideas I can try?
Thanks,
Korey
