If you have a laptop/desktop running XP or W2K that can pretend to be a remote PPTP VPN client you
could run
the test detailed in the "VPN Traffic" section of this article...
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/cableguy/cg0105.mspx#EBAA
Get the XP and/or W2K tools "Pptpsrv.exe" and "Pptclnt.exe" from...

>From the error message it sounds to me like GRE Protocol 47 traffic is not getting through your
router.. Its possible that this is a firmware issue. For example with my Linksys BEFSR41 some
firmware versions simply do not allow GRE Protocol 47 traffic through the router while others do.
Linksys calls that "PPTP Pass Through" by the way. I never could get my Buffalo WBR-G54 to pass GRE
Protocol 47 traffic...:-(
