I am afraid there is no other solution indeed. I tried not to do
it because I have ~$250 in software on that PDA, and backing up
my data then reinstalling everything would be a chore. But you
are right, I can't escape...
One thing came better those days, thanks to another user who
reported positively about AvantGo on Handango, so I finally
reinstalled it, and after a few days of the same flaw, it
mysteriously started to work like a charm again. I don't know
why and how... (May be the numerous times I re-re-uninstalled
that Journal Bar). But Internet Explorer still is unable to get a
single page on the internet, so yes, I think I have to follow your
advice (Hard Reset then reintalling no other news program than
AvantGo). Thanks again.
However may I insist, I think there are some flaws in ActiveSync
3.7.1 and MS should get into it and find it and fix it.

Try performing a hard reset, but do not restore from a backup
(make sure to create a backup though just in case, and be sure
to backup your \My Documents directory on the device if you
aren't using file sync). Do not reinstall Journal Bar.

This failure is very annoying and I see no way to fix it. Thanks to anyone who could help.
