Internet unavailable from Pocket PC duely synced with my PC

I have the same problem: PC and PocketPC sync properly, excepted
that PocketPC can't see Internet, even while the PC-PocketPC
connection is active and working properly for everything else.

- My PC is a 1999 laptop, W2KSP4, ActiveSync 3.7.1;
- my PocketPC is an HP iPaq h2215, Mobile PPC 2003,
with a 256MB CF, a 256MB SD, and plenty software.
- the problem seems to come from ActiveSync and to be
propagated and/or aggravated (and somewhat hidden)
by other programs, particularly Journal Bar and AvantGo.

                                       --ooOOoo--

First I could access Internet. But in Jan-Feb 2004 I bought and
installed Journal Bar with its JB Expansion Pack. This was
convenient, I could sync at office, then on the bus-train-bus
back home I could browse the news, weather, sport scores, and
so.

Some time in spring, JB got "upgraded" to a new version with a
new way of dealing with Internet and of handling the cache. From
that moment I couldn't access Internet anymore. Unfortunately
the problem, while widely reported by users, was consistently
denied by the producer (OmegaOne) who always pretended a new
version would fix it. The new version would come, the producer
friends would come on the forum tout everything was right now,
so each time I tried before complaining, but each time the flaw
was still there; and reporting that the flaw hadn't been fixed
as touted, got me banished even from browsing my own
contributions to the forum. So, to get from the producer the
support you have paid for, you must lie and pretend the program
is working.

Then I uninstalled JB and JBEP and installed AvantGo (which was
included in the HP Companion CD). AvantGo did work
wonderfully... for just one day. Next day, sync would stall
during preparation: in ActiveSync window, all other items went
properly, but AvantGo would say something like "still 2min14s"
or so, but the time announced (say "2min14s") would not change
next time - only change after a soft reset.

>From that moment on, I wasn't able any more to use anything on
the net from IE on my PPC.

Similar problem with MxConverter from TranCreative: its updates
(currencies) had never worked quite properly, however they did
work first, and after the JB and AvantGo debacle, MxConverter
would never update again, excepted once: after I reported on
TranCreative forum, they told me to try, I tried, it worked -
but one hour later the problem was back and never went away
since.

I assume OmegaOne and AvantGo (and TranCreative) are hiding some
problems from customers, but it also seems that those problems
are mostly due to Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7.1, either in the
program itself, or in the instructions to use it (or in the
user... however having produced software for 25 years I think I
tried properly... but one can never be sure indeed).

Thanks to anyone who could help.

Hi,
Have you confirmed that ActiveSync - Tools - Options and the
Pocket PC are setup to connect to the internet? Finally do you
have a proxy setup on the Pocket PC?

Subject: Cannot access internet from Pocket PC connected to my PC
I've HP iPAQ Pocket PC running Microsoft Pocket PC version
4.20.0. I connect my Pocket PC to my Desktop PC running Windows
XP Professional using ActiveSync 3.7.1 and USB cable. ActiveSync
detects the Pocket PC without any problem. I can access my
Pocket PC from my desktop pc but I cannot access internet from
my Pocket PC. My desktop is connected to 100 MBps LAN and we
don't use any proxy for getting on to internet. There 4-5 other
people in my group who don't have this problem. They have same
configuration as mine. I tried lots of things like reinstalling
ActiveSync, selecting The Internet for Pass through connection
etc. but nothing seem to solve the problem. Please
help...
Thanks.
