ActiveSync becomes unresponsive when PPC is removed from cradle

For the last few months, whenever I remove my PPC from its cradle,
ActiveSync continues to report "Connected", CPU usage goes up to 100%, and
Outlook is unusable. This occurs for 15 to 20 seconds. Then everything
returns to normal: ActiveSync reports "Not Connected", CPU usage becomes
normal, and Outlook becomes responsive. Any ideas as to what might be
causing this? I'm running AS 3.5.
