No firewall? If there is one make sure it is configured to allow activesync
to connect.
Uninstall Activesync, then try removing all references to activesync that
get left in the registry. Try a reinstall following the instructions
carefully- when to connect the machine, and when not to. Connecting too
early messed my installation up.
