FINALLY SOLVED IT!!! - -
I decided the only thing left to do was to Hard reset, create a new profile
and start from scratch, not using an existing backup. During the process I
put things back together vveerrrryyy slowly and carefully and found there
were at least two corrupted files on my SD card. Since those files (I
think) are not sync'd, I don't know what difference it made. Clearly this
was it, because even with the new profile if the SD was in the socket it
would hang on the first file sync.
