Hi,

Before restoring a backup (*.stg) file, you need to
remember a few things. The 1st thing to remember is that
the Pocket Pc must be set with the same regional settings
that it had when the backup file was created and 2nd
point is that the file can be restored only in the guest
mode partnership.

My guess is that you have established a partnership and
are trying to restore the backup file. In such a
scenario, you will first need to delete all the
partnerships that are there in ActiveSync and then
connect your device... this action will make ActiveSync
prompt you for the type of partnership you would like to
setup. Select Guest partnership and proceed.... I think
you will find Chris De Herrera's web page very useful ---

http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/activesync/backup.htm

The information that you save on your Pocket Pc is stored
on the RAM of your device. Even if your device is
switched off, it uses a small amount of power to save the
data unlike a popular belief that when the device is shut
the battery power is not used. Anyway that is just a
small piece of information... there can be several
reasons for the power of your device to die down....

Hope this helps you.

Regards,
Raj
