Sync-ing on Friday, not on Monday

My IPAQ 3835 was formerly having the problem of only syncing up
"sometimes" - had to unplug/replug in until it was recognized. Last sync was
Friday 2/6. Today is Wednesday and I've been trying to get it to sync up
since Monday and no luck. I've tried all USB ports, sometimes I get the
"unrecognized USB device" notice, other times it attempts (green-circle
spins) to connect, then eventually goes grey and says unrecognized USB
device. Have tried cycling power, un-installed USB port, re-installing
ActiveSync 3.7.1, no luck. I am running XP and keep up to date on Windows
Updates, as well as McAfee Security updates.
