IP address configuration

Hi,
Can anyone help with my problem below.

-I used to be able to synch my PocketPC with my laptop
using ActiveSync
-Then I installed a firewall (ZoneAlarmPro) on my laptop
-In order to sync now, I have to grant 'Access'
and 'Server Access' priveleges to ActiveSync Application
and Connection Manager for the Internet zone (untrusted),
so that they can 'see' my PocketPC. i.e. ZoneAlarm sees
my PocketPC as part of the untrusted Internet zone.
-I would rather not grant these priveleges to these
programs for the Internet zone. I am happy to grant
these priveleges for the Trusted zone.
-To do this I must give my PocketPC an IP address and add
that address to ZoneAlarm's Trusted zone.
-On my PocketPC, in Start>Settings>Connections>Netowrk
Adapters, I have three adapters installed. For each of
them, I have clicked Properties and given them
(identical, because I don't know which network adapter
will be used. Is this correct?) IP addresses
that 'match' my laptop (e.g. Laptop 192.168.0.1, PocketPC
192.168.0.2), set the subnet mask the same as my laptop,
and listed my laptop's IP address as the default gateway.
-All to no avail.

I expect that the problem lies with my setting up of my
PocketPC's network configuration, as opposed to my
firewall. Adding an IP address of a trusted machine to
the firewall is trivial, and I don't expect it to be the
cause of my woe.

Any help, clues, advice would be greatly appreciated.
Ken.
