Re: Cursor Jumps to top of Outlook 2007 Email Message

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I tried changing this switch, but it made no difference. As someone below
said, the cursor is OK: it's the scroll that is problematic. My best guess
is in the rush to market the product was shipped with an improperly written
procedure. What happens is, when the last visible line wraps, the cursor
goes down one line, the screen scrolls correctly, and the first word on the
new line is displayed correctly as typed, until the first space (End Of Word)
at which point the scroller control jumps to Start Of Page.

I've programmed F9 to take me to End Of Page, which minimizes the
aggravation, but if I'm working on a passage in mid-document, I have to
search for the cussed thing again. I've taken to starting a new doc, and
pasting it into place when done. But it's a bug, pure and simple.

Was it enabled or disabled and did changing it fix it?

When its enabled, the cursor moves as you scroll up or down. When you press
the arrow keys after you use the scroll bar, the cursor is positioned in the
page currently in view, not at its last used position. If this is disabled,
and the user is using the scroll bar, the cursor would stay in the last used
position. This doesn't sound like the description of your problem though.
Default is on.

Jumping cursors (and other odd keyboard behavior) is often the result of an
open mic and the speech to text feature.

After checking other resources, I found that the possible setting in
question is called Smart Cursoring.

Message format, presence on or off, signature set-up, lots of things.
Only
you can compare the options each user has. Start with Tools->options and
look at every option. I would also check the options in Word options.
