Hi,
This is a known issue and should be addressed in a future update to Internet
Explorer 7. Thanks for reporting it.

When composing email in HTML the "editor" cannot keep up with even a
bad typist. No characters will appear until keyboard activity has
ceased for a couple of seconds.
Then, all the characters will suddenly appear.
It turns out that this atrocious, repugnant, unacceptable behavior is
due to my stupidity!
I had the audacity to put sites in my restricted zone in IE7. How dumb
is that? Why on earth would I think that I could go and protect my
system from damaging websites, without destroying the performance of
the Outlook email editor?
Anybody with the brains of a cockroach should know that you can't go
around changing settings in IE7 without affecting the performance of
your OL mail editor. I only hope that removing the sites hasn't
damaged the databases in Access or de-linked my spreadsheets.
Sarcasm aside: OL2003 checks every site in your IE Restricted sites
list on every keystroke. That is the cause of the keyboard lag when
editing an HTML email. Remove the restricted sites and everything
works fine. Edit in plain text and everything works fine.
Bonus Bug (just for fun): Remove all the restricted sites while
outlook is running. Now, every time you try to create a new HTML email
message (Ctrl-n), Outlook crashes, sends a report to MSFT and reloads
itself. This crash is so pervasive that it takes a re-boot to cure it.
How much does that suck?
