Transfer emails from old computer to new

I am setting up Outlook on a new computer and wish to transfer the active
emails and archived emails from the old computer to the new. I am assuming
that I can copy the outlook.pst (active emails) and archive.pst (archived
emails) and paste them to the appropriate folder on the new computer. Is
this correct? I have set the location for the archive.pst folder, but I'm at
a loss how to find the location of the active email file, called backup.pst
in Outlook 2003, I think.
By now, it should be obvious that I don't really know what I'm doing, but
you'll understand what I am trying to do. Any suggestions would be most
appreciated.
